How SAP Cloud Platform Helps Companies Innovate

The SAP Cloud Platform (SCP) is growing rapidly. What makes this technology suite from SAP so appealing to the almost 1,000 partners and over 10,000 customers that have adopted SCP? It has the potential to combine any data, transaction, business process—in whatever system or database it exists—to anywhere.

What is it and how does it work? The SCP is a technology suite, application content accelerator suite, and development toolkit for enabling business software innovation. This can come in the form of applications, services, and analytics.

Connected to the SAP Data Hub, SCP is a development platform with an expanding set of common languages. It contains access to business services, security services, integration services, mobile services, and UX/UI. Collaborations are also possible with analytics tools, machine learning services, internet of things services, blockchain services, and big data services. These services can be accessed by users through Fiori Launchpad integration in an open, public cloud environment.

SCP also offers a development accelerator suite that contains 750 prepackaged integration content packages and a Java-based development toolkit for creating and managing development projects.

When and How to Deploy SAP Cloud Platform

The options for cloud deployment are growing, and SCP has infrastructure options. Options for running SCP include platform-as-a-service providers via the Cloud Foundry including Azure, Amazon Web Services, Google, and Alibaba. Other options are SAP’s own data centers (HANA Enterprise Cloud).

When should customers and partners such as /N SPRO use SCP? When the innovation is outside of the core enterprise system, when the innovation is modular, when it is bundled with a service offering (e.g., tax table updates), when frequent changes are expected to the innovation, when the application/service must connect to multiple systems (e.g., S/4 and ECC, SAP and non-SAP), when the innovation is customer-specific or partner-specific. Long story short—there are plenty of opportunities to use SCP.

Additionally, the SCP is a bi-modal architecture enabler—it can create a system of differentiation separate from your systems of record in order to drive innovation.

SCP Use Cases Are Building

Who is using SCP?

  • 950 partners
  • 1,500 apps and growing (
  • 150 3rd party connectors
  • Over 10,000 customers
  • 5,000+ integration customers

Finally, what are some current use cases?  SCP customers have built B2B self-service ecommerce sites, and enabled sustainable and traceable farming.  They’ve improved customer on-boarding, logistics scheduling, stocktaking, and created a better ordering system for B2B partners. Through SCP, customers have optimized routes, constructed and deployed chat bots, introduced new products, and managed taxes. Our Rizing HCM colleagues innovated directly with customers to build a cloud software deployment acceleration tool called Blueline.

The best news? Most all of these examples were deployed in 12 weeks or less. The speed to innovation, combined with the openness of the toolset, make the SCP a strong solution for any SAP customer—on-premise or in the cloud.
