Workshop on SAP EPC integration between: SAP/Primavera/MS Project

The Client builds wind turbines. They develop the equipment and in many cases, they sell the project including construction.

Custom interfaces build in .Net are used to transfer information between SAP PS and Primavera. The link is not made on WBS or activity ID but based on the date and resource. A resource is a step in the production or construction process and the dates are used to sort the activities per resources so they know how many turbines are on manufactured, how many blades are on site, how many nose cones are installed, etc. The process gets more automated and they are very dependent on vendors to make changes to the interface.

The Client looks for a more standard, easier to maintain solution, possibly also for MS Project.

Vesta Role (including project scope & SAP modules):

After an introduction to EPC by SAP, the Client was looking for more information and detail on mapping and possibilities. Nhan Pham, Director, Technical Delivery together with Jan Hein, Principal Consultant from Rizing facilitated a workshop in which they went through the Clients current interface and 3 possible scenarios for future development. A high-level design was made for the Clients first scenario: reporting progress mobile on orders in SAP then interface to Primavera.

Actions Taken:
  • Preparation of the workshop
  • Live workshop held on client site
  • Proposal for scenario 1 created and delivered to the client
Implementation highlights and challenges:

Not implemented yet. The flexible link based on resources per process step are the key complexity.

Results Achieved (hard and soft benefits realized or anticipated):

Proposal for Primavera integration under consideration.
