Now that the SAP SuccessFactors releases are bi-annual instead of quarterly, they tend to be fairly sizeable with many added features. The H2 2020 Compensation and Variable Pay includes significant enhancements to form functionality and executive review, compensation statements, a totally new Spot Awards (Rewards and Recognition) program, improvements, and additional items for system administrators.

Let’s look at the major enhancements for H2 2020 in SAP SuccessFactors Compensation and Variable Pay.

SuccessFactors H2 2020 Compensation and Variable Pay Updates

Form Functionality

Eligibility Rules Supported for Custom Fields in Compensation Worksheets: Very powerful enhancement, allowing online eligibility rules to apply to any user-editable field.  Before, any custom fields could not have eligibility applied.  One use case is for custom fields used for budgeting, where before, it was difficult to include/exclude ineligible employees.

Configure Compensation Worksheets to Display Multiple Columns for Collapsed Groups: Before, color groups could display one or all fields; now, the administrator can allow more than one but not all fields to display when the user collapses the color group.

Maximum Number of Employees Per Compensation Worksheet Page Raised to 100: Many years ago, a page limit of 50 was instituted due to system performance issues when allowing more employees on a page.  This limit is now increased to 100.  Useful for Admins, HR, or senior managers with large employee populations.

Statements

New Layouts for Statement Templates: The Success Store now contains statement templates with 3 different layouts: 1) letter text on left, table data on the right (standard layout), letter text on the right, table data on the left (reversed), and letter text on top, table data on the bottom (full width).  Before, a custom statement was required if anything other than the standard layout was desired.

Executive Review

Sort Executive Review List of Templates: You can now sort your list of Executive Review templates in either alphabetic or reverse alphabetic order.  Especially useful for anyone that sees many templates in Executive Review, e.g., if a customer includes historical templates in executive review access, the most recent template(s) can now be displayed at the top.

How to turn it on: This is a universal update.

Role-Based Permission to Control Imports of Executive Review Information: You can now grant executive review export permission without automatically granting permission to do offline editing and import changes into executive review.  Useful for any customers that want to restrict offline editing permission to Admins or HR.

Promotions

Promotion Data Available in Compensation Report: A new report is available to administrators to display promotion information.  This applies to both EC and non-EC compensation templates, but it is a significant benefit for templates using EC-Promotions, which could not be reported on before.

How to turn it on: Admin Opt-in

Configuration of Calculated Pay Range based on Post-Promotion Information: The ability to define a new finalAttribute field that the system uses when calculating the final pay range was introduced in H1 2020 release.  It is now possible to specify the finalAttribute field as an administrator rather than update the XML.

Administration

There were many system administration items included in this release.  These changes are universal.  Here is a list of the ones we feel are most beneficial or impactful:

Static Permission Groups Added to Field-Based Permissions: We can define FBP group members by importing a CSV spreadsheet, like other areas within SuccessFactors.

Multi-Select Filtering Supported Within Compensation When Publishing Employees in Employee Central: Useful for employee populations with varying effective or payroll dates.

Migrate All Instances to Granular Role-Based Permission Model: If your instance did not have three areas for Comp/VarPay RBP admin permissions before (Comp, Var Pay, Comp & Var Pay), you will now.  And there are many more items included in the Admin RBP permissions.

Admins can now do numerous items that used to require provisioning or XML access: A few of the included items are:

  • Employees per page
  • Default sorting
  • Format and Color-Bar compa-ratio display
  • Currency views
  • Compensation Employee profile enable/disablement.
