SAP SuccessFactors H2 2020 Release update

Now that the SAP SuccessFactors releases are bi-annual instead of quarterly, they tend to be fairly sizeable with many added features. The H2 2020 Succession and Development (or Career Development Planning) releases have been provided with plenty of enhancements. While some of the features have been rolled up into global usability and UI enhancements, there are several specific module updates too.

Let’s dig into the SuccessFactors H2 2020 Succession and Development enhancements.

H2 2020 Succession Updates

Enhanced OData Entity Successor

As with some of the other API and ODATA enhancements, SuccessFactors ensure consistency between Admin Centre settings and the ODATA API. Now when using the OData API of “Successor,” Employees who are nominated as Successors will not see themselves in the successor list of data returned by the API.

Select Specific Report Levels in Matrix Grid Reports

To further add flexibility to the Team View of the Matrix Grid Reports, rather than having a single select (where you could only select one level at a time), SuccessFactors have enhanced the Report Levels functionality multi-select, allowing one or more levels to be viewed.

“Add Successor” Icon Available in Succession Org Chart

Another great UI enhancement, from within an open position card, succession planners can now directly add successors by using the new “Add Successor” icon. This makes things a little more intuitive whilst in the position card.

Approve or Reject Talent Pool Nominations

SAP SuccessFactors, in this release, has closed some of the gaps that make the Succession module a truly world-class solution. Sometimes the simplest solutions can often be some of the most powerful, and in this particular case, was a welcome addition.

Now, when a nominee has been added to a talent pool, Succession Planners can now “approve” or “reject” talent pool nominations. This gives even more granularity to now be able to manage Talent Pools effectively.

With this enhancement comes 3 additional statuses:

Pending – The Nominee has NOT been approved for the talent pool.

Change Pending – any changes in the Nominees notes or readiness indicators have not been approved.

Deletion Pending – the removal of the Nominee from a talent pool has not been approved.

New To-Do Item “Approve Talent Pool Nominees”

In addition to the above enhancement with Talent Pool Approvals, a new “To-Do” item has also been created to support Succession Planners with the process. As long as the right permissions have been set in Role-Based Permissions, the To-Do item appears on both the legacy home page or the To-Do panel on the Fiori homepage.

Filter Section Collapsed by Default in Talent Pools

Another UI improvement enhancement section where the filter fields sit at the top of the screen is minimized by default. Many customers were automatically clicking on the “collapse” button so that it gave them more screen “real estate.”

Clicking the down arrow expands this section and presents the following fields to assist with filtering:

  • Name/UserID Search
  • Readiness
  • Status
  • Job Title

View Nomination History for Talent Pools Through OData API and Stories in People Analytics

For organizations that leverage the OData API and/or the “Stories” functionality in People Analytics, SuccessFactors have now rolled up the data into both these areas so that they are available.

Enhanced “Export Talent Search Results” Dialog Box

When users now use the “Export Talent Search Results,” they now have the ability to see the used search filters at the top of the list. From here, they are also able to re-order the fields so that when the results are exported, the file contains the data in the order that the user requested, so this saves having to manually put them in the right order from within the file. Additionally, the user can hide any unused fields, lending to a better UI experience.

New Competency Picker in Talent Search

Customers who are using Job Profile Builder, with successfully migrated data to the module, can now use the new competency picker, which gives the ability to search for competencies using keywords or the competency hierarchy navigator. This brings into line the functionality that other modules are using and ensures that the experience is aligned across the relevant system.

Talent Search Enhancement to Background Information Categories

Rounding out the Succession Module enhancements for H2 2020, SuccessFactors have updated how the Talent Search functionality makes it an extremely powerful tool.

Previously, users could only add ONE search filter in the same background information category (except Languages and Formal Education, where you could add multiple criteria). Unfortunately, with this setup, users were unable to view search results that would simultaneously satisfy the criteria of having multiple criteria in the background category (i.e., Fluent in English Speaking, Reading and Writing, AND fluent in German-Speaking, Reading, and Writing OR Highest Level of Education being Degree).

Now, users can add up to 6 criteria for each of the background information categories. The “Meet Any of Criteria for a Background Information Category” checkbox changes the behavior from an AND operator to an OR operator, adding more flexibility and enhancing the user’s search results.

Custom Picklist Labels in Mentoring Programs Available in Information Report

When viewing the Data Subject Information report of Employees, it’s now possible to see the descriptive labels of the custom picklists used in the Mentoring Programs. This makes it easier to report viewers to understand the options that were picked by the employees when signing up for Mentoring Programs.

Remove Recommended Job Roles in Career Explorer

The machine learning derived Career Explorer does a fantastic job of suggesting job roles based on their profile. However, to add some flexibility and help keep the UI uncluttered, this release enables the ability to manually remove roles if they are of no interest to the user. Additionally, the system now advises when the Machine Learning algorithm gets retrained and updates with new suggestions.

Colors Exchanged for Last Rating and Expected Rating in Career Worksheet

To improve the UI and expectations of users’ understanding of the colors used in Career Worksheet, SuccessFactors have swapped the colors around that denote “Expected Rating” and “Last Rating.” Now, “Expected Rating” is blue and “Last Rating” is green. This improves the overall visual experience in using this functionality.

View Career Worksheet of Target Population

Security and Privacy are of utmost concern to SuccessFactors. To respect Role-Based Permissions that define access to Career Worksheet templates, this enhancement ensures that users who have the right permissions in the XML of the Career Worksheet can only view the Career Worksheets of the users who belong in the target population as defined in their RBP.

Availability of “Open Positions for the Role” in Manage Suggested Roles

The “Open Positions for the Role” checkbox in “Manage Suggested Roles” is available for customers using legacy permissions. This option is NOT available as it is not required in MDF positions. This enhancement addresses any confusion in the option when having MDF positions enabled as this criteria does not apply to MDF positions.

Retirement of CDP Lite

As previously communicated, CDP lite will no longer be supported post-H2 2020. Customers currently using CDP lite will not see the goals associated with the development plan on the Performance Form. Customers that enable CDP Full will be able to utilize the existing objectives in both the development plan and any associated performance forms.
