Hydro-Québec Optimizes Training with Rizing’s LMS Planner

Cloud software usually means standardization. Companies need to adapt their processes to the technology instead of the classic on-premise method of adapting technology to processes.

However, there are exceptions. Development tools like the SAP® Business Technology Platform enable an organization to expand on cloud software to fit a specific need.

For Hydro-Québec, North America’s largest utility, the challenge was training 20,000 employees who serve over four million customers. The utility industry is a challenge for training providers because they have a mix of field-based and office-based employees with drastically different training needs.

If You Need It, Build It

Hydro-Québec was using a home-grown training planning tool that wasn’t managing their complex learning processes and large volumes of sessions. That made it tough to implement a successful learning strategy.

Hydro-Québec wanted to centralize its learning by getting a complete overview of its training practices and the activities of its 250 trainers. With that view they could improve their training by meeting the individual schedules and functional needs of their employees.

SAP + Rizing LMS Planner = Success

The SAP SuccessFactors Learning Management System (LMS) provided an excellent user experience for a variety of potential trainees. From there, Hydro-Québec wanted to achieve its goals by also creating a great experience for trainers and schedulers.

That’s where the SAP’s Business Technology Platform (BTP) and Rizing’s learning experts came into play.

Hydro-Québec needed to extend its SuccessFactors LMS module. Rizing helped build LMS Planner on SAP BTP, giving trainers and schedulers access to all of Hydro-Quebec’s employee training needs and schedules, allowing for better coordination.

“We’ve enabled our training teams to react quickly and better serve our advanced operational needs.”

The Benefits of Innovation

Hydro-Québec will benefit from LMS Planner through better long-term forecasting, more efficient training planning, greater transparency, and improved reporting for their business partners.

The overall project goal was to ensure Hydro-Québec provides the best service for its customers. By implementing employee training programs more efficiently, Hydro-Québec can ensure a great customer experience in the Quebec province.

So far, Hydro-Québec has seen a 25 percent dip in the effort required for training planning – the equivalent of three full-time positions.

Extension Development FTW

That’s the benefit of being able to develop extensions for cloud software beyond basic standardization.

Instead of trying to fit a round peg in a square hole with its training programs, Hydro-Québec partnered with Rizing HCM to build a learning management solution that exactly fit its needs.

The solution will also fit the needs of many other companies with diverse workforces and high training volumes.
