Rizing Helps Vynova Optimize Maintenance and Reliability Engineering with SAP ASPM Implementation

Vynova and Rizing collaborated remotely to set up an SAP® Asset Strategy and Performance Management (ASPM) solution to support Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA). SAP ASPM is a cloud solution that enables plant managers and reliability engineers to measure and improve the performance of their assets and optimize the maintenance strategies. The project required setup, documentation, training, data transformation, and data migration at three locations.

Vynova is a European PVC and chlor-alkali company with production sites in five countries and employing 1,275 people. Founded in 2015, Vynova is the chlor-vinyls platform of the International Chemical Investors Group. It produces PVC (S-PVC), KOH and other potassium derivatives, caustic soda (NaOH), and sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) products, with an annual turnover of 1.8 billion euros in 2022.

Connecting

When Vynova realized they needed an implementation partner to implement SAP’s ASPM product, they did what most businesses do before making a big purchase.

They asked industry peers for recommendations.

Several of their partners recommended Rizing based on Rizing’s experience in the enterprise asset management space. After working through a formalized RFP process, Vynova and Rizing created a combined project team to begin the work.

“The team had all the people necessary to complete the project. The people involved in the sales process stayed engaged during the execution of the project.”

– Peter Van der Veken, Vynova VP Technology & Engineering

Collaborating

The team began collaborating to accomplish a series of project milestones:

Environment Setup

The team set up development, testing, and production environments and made all the necessary application connections.

Foundational Assessments

By completing a series of assessments, the team built a baseline to measure against in the future. These assessments involved gathering relevant data and loading it into an analysis matrix.

Maintenance Plan Documentation

The team documented existing asset maintenance plans with an eye to the future.

Rather than capturing the information on paper or in spreadsheets, the team chose to populate the plans into a more flexible desktop database application.

This enabled a dynamic transformation of the data into a format that could be imported into the final cloud-based application.

Data Migration

Vynova and Rizing collaborated.Data migration was no small feat.

The team completed the work using Rizing accelerators, which helped with data-related activities:

  • Quality assurance
  • Conversion
  • Mapping definitions
  • Template creation

The work paid off. The team had a successful go-live, including data migration for three locations without issues.

“Migrating existing data to the new system was approximately 50% of the entire project.”

– Peter Van der Veken, Vynova VP Technology & Engineering

Workshops and Training

The Vynova and Rizing project team also connected with other customer employees to ensure project success:

  • Functionality demonstrations
  • Functional workshops
  • End-user training
  • Administrator training

“It’s important to work with a sales partner familiar with the entire process from setup through training. We didn’t want someone who would just do the integration and setup and then dump it all over on our side of the fence.”

– Peter Van der Veken, Vynova VP Technology & Engineering

Challenges

Any enterprise-level software migration project is sure to offer unique challenges.

For this specific engagement, not being able to work on-site made the already-challenging data migration even harder.

COVID-19 impacted the project by causing most of it to be done remotely.

“We did this all remotely, except for training. Data migration is much easier when you can sit next to the person delivering the data. We had to do that via email or Teams. But Vynova was flexible, we were flexible, and we made this data migration a success.”

– Satish Garib, Rizing Market Unit Director

Conclusion

vynova rizing project success

Henry Ford once said, “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is a success.”

If that’s true, this project was a success.

“Both sides had to pitch in extra effort. But the collaboration gave us a foundation to build on and bring the Rizing quality to.”

– Satish Garib, Rizing Market Unit Director

“It was a good collaboration. I can recommend Rizing for future projects.”
