Change.

For many employees, change means fear. Fear of a larger workload. Fear of skills going out of date. Fear of a new supervisor or direct report upsetting a well-run workplace.

One way to mitigate the fears that can crop up during large organizational-shifting projects is communication.

Communication Mitigates Fear

By communicating why the change is needed, how it will impact individuals, and what the expected benefits are, organizations can help individual employees understand how the change will benefit them.

Organizational Change Management (OCM) is a formalized framework for managing the effects of change within a company, be it new processes, new technologies, organizational structures, or marketplaces.

Maynilad Wins Silver Addy

Rizing client Maynilad Water, a Philippine-based supplier of water and wastewater services, recently won a “Silver Addy” award for a “Public Relations Program on a Sustained Basis” from the Public Relations Society of the Philippines.

Maynilad’s award-winning PR project supports the Change Management efforts around a larger SAP® EAM/LAM (Linear Asset Management) rollout.

Rizing Vice President Edward Lee describes the team structure:

“We created a core team of 16 OCM agents,” he says. “We enabled them with skills like public speaking and presenting along with instruction on how to build teams and leverage OCM models and Rizing’s Framework for Transformation and Change.”

Change Starts Within

Lee describes why the team deserved the award:

“They started by learning updated methods of managing change internally,” he says. “From there they created a program to explain the planned changes, the need for them, and how they will be implemented,” he says. “The end goal is to build trust. To do that, we continuously communicate our expectations with mutual respect.”

Change Is Continuous

The award doesn’t mean the team is resting on its laurels.

“OCM is a continuous process that’s integral to an organization’s EAM implementation,” Lee says.” Maynilad has built a dashboard to analyze their SAP data and use it to communicate with the respective teams. We continue to work to make ourselves, the people around us, and our working environments better by focusing on positive change.”

Rizing Played Critical Role

Mynilad expressed appreciation for Edward Lee’s role in the project:

“Edward has been a significant contributor in the success of this project. Receiving the Silver Anvil award for our change management program further validates this accomplishment. He led the OCM strategy implementation that empowered our maintenance people with the mindset of continuous improvement, moving us in the right direction.”

Mynilad won two Excellence and six Merit awards in the 19th Philippine Quill Awards.
